Ametista do Sul | About Luciana & The Amethyst Experience

My name is Luciana Bazilio, and I was born and raised in Brazil – a country rich in natural beauty, mineral abundance, and small communities where life still moves at a human pace.

My connection with stones began many years ago, not only as objects of beauty, but as living expressions of the Earth. Over time, that connection became a relationship – one that brought me back, again and again, to the amethyst mines of Ametista do Sul, Brazil.

Having lived for many years in Canada, I understand both cultures deeply. I created this experience to help others connect more deeply with a region that has shaped my life, and to share the places, people, and stories that make it unique. The most extraordinary things are often found beneath the surface.

The Amethyst Experience grew from a desire to share something real – a place, a culture, and a way of life that remains closely connected to the land. Throughout the experience, I serve as a cultural bridge, local guide, and resource for understanding the region’s mining history, communities, and mineral traditions.

About the Place

Ametista do Sul mine

Nestled in the rolling hills of southern Brazil, Ametista do Sul is more than a destination – it is an experience.

Known as the world’s Amethyst Capital, Ametista do Sul, Brazil holds one of the largest deposits of amethyst ever discovered. The region is recognized internationally for its amethyst mines and mineral heritage.

The discovery began in the 1930s, when crystals were found beneath tree roots and in the soil. Over time, the region became recognized as one of the most significant amethyst mining areas in the world.

Today, Ametista do Sul remains closely connected to its mining heritage. Families, businesses, and communities continue to live and work alongside the mines that shaped the region.

For visitors, the experience offers something increasingly rare: an opportunity to encounter a place where the landscape, history, and people remain deeply connected.

Experience Brazil beyond the surface – through its earth, its culture, and its people.

Luciana serves as a guide, cultural liaison, and interpreter of the region’s mineral heritage, helping guests connect more deeply with the people, places, and stories that make Ametista do Sul unique.
