About the Amethyst Experience

The Amethyst Experience was created from a desire to share something real.
It is an invitation to step into an authentic Brazilian world shaped by mining, history, and community – and to leave with more than a souvenir.
This guided experience in Ametista do Sul offers opportunities to explore one of the world’s most significant amethyst-producing regions while gaining insight into its history, culture, and communities. Ametista do Sul is a small town in southern Brazil known throughout the world for its extraordinary amethyst deposits and deep connection to mining culture.
Known as the “World’s Amethyst Capital,” Ametista do Sul offers visitors an opportunity to explore the land, history, and people behind one of the world’s most recognized gemstones.
Who This Is For
This experience is for those who want to experience Brazil beyond the surface – through its land, culture, and people.
Brazil is home to some of the largest amethyst deposits in the world. Local farmers and hunters discovered the purple crystals in the 1930s beneath tree roots and while working their fields. These remarkable amethyst geodes formed approximately 130 million years ago within gas pockets trapped inside massive basalt lava flows.

Today, the region remains closely connected to that history.
During this amethyst mine tour in Brazil, you will visit local landmarks decorated with thousands of amethyst crystals, including a pyramid and a remarkable Catholic church lined with amethyst walls.
You will also experience how former mine tunnels have been transformed into unique vineyards and tasting rooms, taking advantage of the naturally climate-controlled environment created within the basalt rock.
